LONDON: Officials from the Syrian Arab Republic and Egypt held talks in Damascus on Tuesday about ways in which the Syrian-Egyptian Business Council can help enhance bilateral relations by strengthening partnerships and cooperation between companies in both countries.
Syria’s minister of economy and industry, Nidal Al-Shaar, and the Egyptian charge d’affaires, Mohammed El-Feki, discussed improved economic cooperation between their countries, investment opportunities, collaboration in the industrial and economic sectors, and private-sector trade.
It comes as business leaders and officials discuss a proposal to establish an integrated industrial zone in Aleppo Governorate, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported.
In May, Syria’s foreign minister, Asaad Al-Shaibani, visited Egypt for the first time since Syrian former president Bashar Assad was ousted in December 2024. The new authorities in the country have been working to rebuild relations with neighboring nations and the wider international community following years of isolation under the Assad regime. They have emphasized in particular the need for investment, security cooperation, regional stability and engagement with international agencies and organizations.
